This craft brewery ranks as California’s best, Yelp says. What makes it so special?
Yelp named the best craft breweries in every state, and a brewery in San Diego topped the list for California.
The rankings were released just in time for American Craft Beer Week, which starts May 16.
To find the best craft brewery, Yelp looked at U.S. businesses categorized as breweries that make their own beer. Then each place was ranked based on the total volume and ratings of reviews, according to a May 9 blog post.
All businesses on Yelp’s ranking were listed as open and have a passing health score as of April 21.
Home Brewing Co. — San Diego
Home Brewing Co. ranked as the best brewery in California, but it does more than make and serve brews.
The business also doubles as a home brew supply store.
“Not only does it have a bunch of supplies and ingredients to brew beer and make cider and seltzer, but you can actually enjoy a brew there as well,” one customer said.
The supplies storefront opened in 2012, then two years later they opened the brewery and tasting room. Customers can order beer starter kits, ingredients, equipment and sign up for beer making workshops.
Home Brewing Co. also sells beer to go and an array of beers to sip on at the business.
One beer on tap is a Mo Jamba Smoothie Sour with notes of tangerine, pineapple and peach puree. They also serve a beer named It’s a Little Stout with roasted and chocolate aromas paired with a “gentle floral and piney hop notes.”
And the current beer menu includes a couple of IPAs, an ale, lager, sour and hefeweizen.
The business is located at 2911 El Cajon Blvd.
