Deputies shot a man who pulled out a weapon as they confronted him inside a Walmart in Southern California, sheriff’s officials say.

The incident took place at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the Foothill Ranch store, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department reported in a news release.

Deputies responding to reports that people were trying to return products they hadn’t purchased at the store confronted the man, who was uncooperative, the release said.

He pulled out a weapon and deputies shot him, the release said. A knife and gun believed to belong to the man were recovered.

The man underwent surgery but no information was available on his medical condition, sheriff’s officials said.

A man and woman ran from the store and drove away, but were later found and arrested, the release said.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the shooting.
