3-year-old, mom hurt when speeding car slams into Taco Bell, California officials say
A 30-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter were airlifted to hospitals after their car slammed into a Taco Bell in California, authorities said.
The two suffered major injuries in the crash at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, Oakley police said in a news release.
The car ran into a stone pillar, preventing it from entering the restaurant’s dining room, KPIX reported. Officers arrived minutes later to find the mom and toddler trapped in the wreckage.
Onlookers reported the woman sped across a supermarket parking lot before crashing into the fast-food restaurant, police said.
“She drove probably 50 or 60 miles an hour past the store, accelerating with no braking, and I think she went up on the curb, she hit shopping carts,” Stephanie Pruscha told KTVU.
Pruscha told KGO that she got inside the mangled car and handed the injured toddler to a police officer. Police closed a nearby street so helicopters could land.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash. No information was released on the medical condition of the woman and child. Detectives ask that anyone with information on the crash contact the department’s tip line at OPD@ci.oakley.ca.us.
Oakley is a city of 43,991 people in Contra Costa County along the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.
