Driver trapped in burning van rescued as it rolls down street, California police say
A burning Xfinity van with the driver trapped inside nearly rolled down an embankment before two California police officers jumped into action, an Oakland Police Department post on Twitter says.
The van rear-ended a flatbed truck near the Oakland Coliseum at 7:45 a.m. Thursday and caught fire before rolling backward down the street toward an embankment, the East Bay Times reported.
The van was rolling toward an Interstate 880 off-ramp to Hegenberger Road, KPIX reported.
Two nearby police officers stopped the van and extinguished the flames, KNTV reported.
Oakland firefighters extricated the injured driver, who was hospitalized, the East Bay Times reported. His medical condition has not been reported.
