Surgeon flees on private jet after violent attempt to kidnap her son, CA police say
A California surgeon is accused of a violent attack in a brazen attempt to kidnap her 12-year-old son before fleeing the state in a private jet, police say.
Police say Theresa Lynn Colosi, 55, chartered a private plane for herself, her 12-year-old son, and her dog before allegedly assaulting a woman whom a court appointed to supervise Colosi’s visits with her son, according to KRTV.
Colosi is an orthopedic surgeon from San Jose, California. Santa Barbara detectives say they “uncovered that she also withdrew $900,000 from her bank account and gave away her belongings,” according to KTLA. She’s also accused of booking a private jet to Glacier Jet Center at Glacier International Airport in Montana, according to a Whitefish Police Department press release.
Colosi was arrested Wednesday in Whitefish, Montana, after officers monitored the residence she was staying in. They then conducted a traffic stop and took Colosi into custody on charges of attempted murder and attempted child abduction, according to the police release.
Colosi allegedly attacked the woman supervising her visit on Sunday in the Zodo’s Bowling and Beyond parking lot in Goleta, California, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, Noozhawk reports.
“During the visitation, Colosi began to act suspicious while walking with her son, which caught the victim’s attention,” Zick told Noozhawk. “Colosi then swung a metal object at the victim, hitting her in the head several times.”
. After the attack, police say Colosi was unable to kidnap her 12-year-old son, KRTV reported. Officers later found the victim with severe facial and head injuries, according to KTLA.
“Detectives also learned that prior to the incident at Zodo’s, Colosi gave away her belongings, withdrew $900,000 from her bank account, and chartered the flight with fictitious names for herself, her son, and her dog,” Zick said, according to Noozhawk.
Colosi is currently being detained without bail at Flathead County detention center, pending extradition to California, per KTLA.
