Cal Poly grads started SLO tech company in a garage. It’s been bought by a global agency
Tech company Hathway, which was founded in a San Luis Obispo garage, has been acquired by global digital agency Bounteous for an undisclosed amount, the company announced Wednesday.
Bounteous is a Chicago-based “digital innovation partner of the world’s most ambitious brands” with offices around the world, including in Mexico and India. Its clients include Adobe, Coca Cola and Chase Bank, according to its website.
“We’re excited about what this means for our future together,” Hathway CEO Jesse Dundon said in a news release. “With Bounteous, we gain instant access to a global talent network, additional capabilities, and resources to help us make this an even better place for our team to succeed in driving results for our clients.”
Dundon added the acquisition is “a great win for the San Luis Obispo community, especially given Bounteous’ commitment to maintain a large presence in San Luis Obispo, expand our recruiting partnerships with Cal Poly and encourage our staff to continue working from the locations they love.”
Hathway, a digital growth agency, was founded in 2009 by Dundon and Kevin Rice, who were both recent Cal Poly graduates. The company’s original home was in a garage near the university.
Hathway was recently named one of AdWeek’s top 75 fastest-growing companies, and has in the past made numerous appearances on Inc. 5000’s annual fastest growing list.
Over the years, the business“grew to serve MindBody, SLO Chamber of Commerce, and expanded beyond to larger enterprises,” according to the release.
In 2015, the company developed its NomNom service, which powered custom digital ordering and loyalty applications for a number of national restaurant chains such as Wingstop, Dutch Bros. Coffee and Panda Express, the release said.
Today, Hathway has more than 250 global team members with more than 60 based in the San Luis Obispo area, according to the release.
With the acquisition, Bounteous intends to “keep an active collaboration center in San Luis Obispo,” according to the release.
Dundon and Rice will also join the Bounteous leadership team to help “helm the former Hathway team as part of a new restaurant-focused business unit,” according to the release.
