Dazzling SLO County estate with vineyard, helipad, ocean views sells for record price
The jaw-dropping, 78.5-acre Moonstone Ranch Estate along the California Central Coast has sold after more than a decade of being on and off the market in a $17 million deal — which sets the record for most expensive residential property ever purchased in Cambria, according to Sotheby’s International Realty.
The property at 7292 Exotic Garden Drive in San Luis Obispo County — across from Pacific Coast Highway — features a 32,500-square-foot main residence with 12 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. The estate takes in 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean.
“This bespoke estate offers a multitude of lifestyle possibilities, the unparalleled combination of a luxurious oceanside residence, a private vineyard, and the thrill of horseback riding through both forest and beach landscapes,” the official property listing states. “Moonstone Ranch Estate is more than just a home; it’s a sanctuary where you can indulge in the finest aspects of coastal and country living in one of California’s most breathtaking and sought-after locations.”
The property is accessible through two private entry security gates off Highway 1 — or by landing on a helicopter pad. The long driveway leads to the main residence, where the interiors unfold on a grand scale, from the custom fixtures and finishes to the abundance of natural light throughout that offer picturesque views of the grounds.
Ivory limestone floors, wine cellar
The Venetian villa-style residence comes with ivory limestone floors, a sophisticated entry rotunda, a 30-foot bar in a great room, an entertainment hall adorned with Murano glass chandeliers, a 3,500-bottle wine cellar and a home theater.
Outside, extensive landscaping is highlighted by sculptured gardens, stone statues, bronze urns, Canary Island palms and olive, oak and pine trees.
The grounds also contain fenced pastures from 10 to 20 acres, and six acres of irrigated wine vineyards, including 6,200 Pinot Noir grape vines.
There are additional structures including a pavillion originally designed to store a full-sized helicopter and a 12,700-square-foot entertainment and event space.
The property was originally listed for $28 million. The deal closed Dec. 23, 2024, according to Sotheby’s.
High-end properties in the Cambria area are typically priced between $1 million and $8 million, according to Zillow.
Originally named the Retreat at Moonstone Beach, the estate was developed by Southern California real estate developer Khosro Khaloghli, CEO of KB Investment Development Co., according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He completed the project in 2006.
The buyer’s name was not disclosed.
The seller’s listing agent was Neyshia Go of Sotheby’s International Realty – Beverly Hills Brokerage. The buyer was represented by David Crabtree of Home & Ranch Sotheby’s International Realty.
