Just 1 program helps hundreds of SLO County teens find summer jobs

Numerous local students have found summer employment through the Just 1 program, a partnership among local chambers of commerce, San Luis Obispo County high schools and San Luis Obispo Partners in Education.

Local businesses were encouraged to hire at least one high school student for the summer. More than 300 students from seven high schools sought interviews with 109 businesses during the Just 1 summer job fairs in May, according to a news release. About 90 percent of students who attended were hired.

The Just 1 program is now in its second year.

The large number of participating businesses was a result of outreach efforts by chambers of commerce, the Economic Vitality Corp. and SLO HotHouse.

The primary goal of Just 1 is to support high school work-based learning programs that help students follow various career paths and gain real-world work experience, the news release said.
