The winery, just off Highway 101 south of San Miguel,also won Best Red for its 2014 Fling’s First Crush, a grenache-based blend. San Marcos was purchased in September by Roberto and Kimberly Morelli from its founders, Fling and Annette Traylor.
New this year is the California Craft Spirits competition, which named Opolo Vineyards Best of Show for its unaged fruit brandy and named Krobar Distillery Best of Brown Goods and Best of White Goods for its rye whiskey and barrel-aged gin.
In the wine competition, three other wineries won Best of Section honors: Laetitia Vineyard & Winery in Best of Sparkling for its non-vintage Brut Cuvee; Sextant Wines in Best of Pink for its 2015 Rose; and Eberle Winery in Best of White for its 2015 Viognier and Best of Dessert for its 2015 Muscat Canelli.

Dozens of other honors were awarded for Best of Class; full results can be found at centralcoastwinecomp.com. The 16th annual competition is a collaboration of six California fairs and the largest evaluation of grapes grown on the Central Coast.
