Smart & Final Extra store opens in Atascadero

A Smart & Final Extra store opened its doors Wednesday in Atascadero — the last of three new “Extra” stores the company opened in former Haggen supermarket sites in San Luis Obispo County.

The 39,088-square-foot store is at 8200 El Camino Real. It is the fifth Smart & Final store in the county.

An “Extra” store is much larger than traditional Smart & Final warehouse stores. The new Atascadero store includes items such as oven-roasted chicken, self-serve dry bulk goods, fresh sushi and baked goods from an on-site bakery, according to a company news release.

Each Smart & Final store has about 50 full- and part-time employees, Marisol Marks, director of communications at Smart & Final, told The Tribune in a previous interview.

During the store’s ribbon-cutting Tuesday, the Smart & Final Charitable Foundation presented $2,500 donations to the Atascadero American Youth Soccer Organization Region 1610 and the El Camino Homeless Organization, according to a news release.
