Pismo Beach Premium Outlets adds Couch Potato, As Seen on TV stores

The Pismo Beach Premium Outlets has added two new stores: Couch Potato and As Seen on TV.

Couch Potato, a home furniture store, opened Monday in a 4,500-square-foot location between Calvin Klein and Carter’s. The space formerly housed DC Shoes. This is Couch Potato’s fourth location in San Luis Obispo County.

Lee Samways, co-owner, said the company decided to close its Santa Maria store and relocate to Pismo Beach because the outlets have a consistent flow of foot traffic, which the Santa Maria site lacked. He added that the store is better suited to the outlets, where the clientele is looking for higher-end products at a discount. Samways said they may offer more discounted goods.

His company invested about $50,000 in furniture to open the new location, Samways said, noting that he was unsure of the total investment.

Couch Potato’s annual sales are more than $3 million, he said, declining to disclose profits. The Pismo Beach location has four full-time employees.

The As Seen on TV store returned to the outlets on Black Friday in the approximate 2,000-square-foot former Izod location between PacSun and Zumiez. The store sells As Seen on TV merchandise, along with gift items and toys.

It’s the second time the store has operated in the outlets center. It closed after nearly five years in May 2014, when its year-to-year lease expired and the Simon Property Group, which own the Pismo Beach Premium Outlets, didn’t invite the store to renew its lease, owners James and Stacey Foss said.

The couple also owns As Seen on TV stores in Solvang and the Outlets at Tejon.

The Fosses declined to disclose financial information. They have five full- and part-time employees in Pismo Beach.
