More growth is on the way for San Luis Obispo-based tech company Digital West.

In January, the company announced a $350,000 partnership with the city of San Luis Obispo to use city-owned underground conduits to expand its fiber-optic network offerings downtown.

Now, the company has announced it will move and expand its headquarters to five acres at 600 Tank Farm Road.

Digital West Chief Executive Officer Tim Williams purchased the plot in January for an undisclosed sum to build a new 80,000-square foot headquarters and data center.

The company has been at its current 5,000-square-foot location on Sacramento Drive since 2005. It provides IT infrastructure for local businesses, including network support and ultra-high speed fiber-optic Internet and carrier services.

Construction will take part in three phases, said Sharon Durant, marketing and communications assistant for Digital West. The first phase will begin by the end of the year, and will include a new 40,000-square foot office and data center to house the company’s 24 employees, she said.

The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, she said.

Subsequent construction will expand the new data center.

A major focus for the company has been making the new building more environmentally friendly, Durant said.

The company worked with PG&E to create a design that will reduce the buildings’ power requirements, she said, and hope to apply for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification once the building is completed.

Williams and Durant declined to disclose the cost for the project, including the land purchase.
