Eye Candy dance club opens in downtown SLO

Eighteen to 20-year-olds now have a late-night dance spot in downtown San Luis Obispo.

Eye Candy, a nightclub without a liquor license, is owned by 24-year-old Cal Poly graduate Ryan Benedicto.

“When I was at Cal Poly, for people under 21, The Graduate on the edge of town or house parties were the only options for going out,” he said.

Benedicto has pooled support from family, friends, and loans for the more than $100,000 in renovations to the basement club at 1060 Osos St., which has a 21-foot-long LED light wall imported from Bulgaria.

The club is now open and has a capacity of 360. The club’s days of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, and Benedicto plans to make money from $10 cover charges. He is permitted to host 24 events per year with catered alcohol for those 21 and up.

Benedicto, also known as DJ Blindside, has been a DJ since 2003, and worked as an assistant at Los Angeles radio station Power 106.

Eye Candy will feature hip hop and electronic dance music nights, as well mixtures of the two genres.
