A new restaurant and bar is taking the place of Broad Street Tavern in downtown San Luis Obispo.
Sidecar, at 1127 Broad St., is offering a menu of locally grown meats and vegetables, along with craft beers, international wines and spirits.
Its chef, John Blevins, has worked in upscale restaurants around the country. He has a history of working with local farmers and ranchers to create dishes based on an area’s foods.
The restaurant will offer Soulfood Sundays, a fixed-price menu with a Southern-inspired meal. Called prix fixe, those menus are more commonly offered in Europe, and offer a collection of pre-determined items as a multiple-course meal at a set price.

The new restaurant and bar was opened by Christopher Tarcon and James Whitaker, owners of the nearby Kreuzberg CA café and bar on Higuera Street, according to public records.
