North County shoppers will soon have another bargain grocery retailer.

Grocery Outlet is opening in Paso Robles, one of 20 new Grocery Outlet stores scheduled to open this year as part an overall expansion plan.

The new store, independently owned and operated by Todd Pruitt, will celebrate its grand opening from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at 2800 Riverside Ave. Suite 102 in Paso Robles. A ribbon-cutting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 20. At that time, the store will donate $1,000 worth of food to Loaves and Fishes Paso Robles.

In a news release, Pruitt said he plans to provide exceptional service and an enjoyable shopping experience — and he plans listen to customers.

“I want to make a positive impact on the lives of the local community by building relationships and improving access to affordable, high-quality products and food," he said.

The Paso Robles store will create more than 30 jobs, according to the news release.

It's the third Grocery Outlet to open in San Luis Obispo County in recent years. A store opened at the Laguna Village Shopping Center San Luis Obispo last year. Another is located in Atascadero at the Mission Oaks shopping center.

With more than 225 locations, the Emeryville-based company says it is the largest "extreme-value" grocer in the United States. Most stores are independently owned and operated by locally based families.
