The Palm Theatre can now serve beer and wine. Here’s what’s on the menu
The Palm Theatre in downtown San Luis Obispo now has the option for customers to enjoy a nice drink as they take in their movie.
The movie theater started serving wine and beer to movie-goers this July, and the drinks are local familiar names.
The Palm Theatre received its beer and wine license in mid-June, but started pouring the beverages July 1, executive director Skye McLennan told The Tribune.
“This was definitely something in our vision, from a point of creating sustainability for the theater and an additional revenue stream to help support what we do,” she said. “It is very important for us to keep the theater around for a very long time.”
Canned wine and beer are from all local sellers, like Las Jaras Wines, Castoro Cellars, Protector Cellars and There Does Not Exist.
More concessions like cookies from Paso Robles Cookie Co., teas from Secrets of the Garden and coffee from Spearhead Coffee are not new additions to the theater’s menu, but are still offered, like the $2 small popcorn.
“A big goal for us was that I really want to work with independent and local brands that embody the spirit of what we do at our theater,” McLennan said. “We really want this to be considered a third space in our community.”
The Palm Theatre’s July schedule is packed — from showing the final game of the World Cup on the big screen for the first time to special screenings of “The Odyssey” and director retrospectives from Christopher Nolan’s previous films like “Interstellar” and “The Dark Knight.”
The theater is also showing all independent films created in its recent Reel Challenge, where teams had to write, shoot and edit a short film in under 48 hours.
“You can enter a portal to the world here, and we really try to have a diversity of films and experiences,” McLennan said.
