Popular jewelry store in downtown SLO reopens with new owner — but they’re a familiar face
Super Silver’s long history with Higuera Street is far from over.
The decade-old jewelry store reopened at the start of December after a four-month hiatus.
The brief closure came after its former founder, George Homer Jr., died in September.
That’s when the owner of the store’s Santa Cruz location, Jacki Truhitte, decided to take over the business. As part of that, she asked her older brother Jeff Truhitte to manage the store at 850 Higuera St. in San Luis Obispo
“The main thing was let’s get this one back up, let’s get the silver back down there,” Jeff Truhitte said. “The store was just sitting here. It was just collecting dust. Let’s give the people what they want.”
Truhitte said that once the store softly opened its door Dec. 1, locals would stop by and show excitement about the reopening of the jewelry staple.
“A lot of foot traffic, a lot of locals and loyal,” he said.
He said those customers would often tell him, “Thank God you’re back, I buy all my rings here,’” — and when he’d let them know about the ownership change, the response was mostly the same: “‘Oh, don’t worry, I’ve been to the store in Santa Cruz, I know Jacki.’”
“It’s been fun,” he said.
Homer opened the first Super Silver in Santa Cruz in 1995, and Jacki Truhitte began working there at 15 years old, according to Jeff Truhitte.
In 2003, Jacki purchased the Santa Cruz location and has been running the Super Silver location for two decades, according to its website.
The business sources its jewelry from Italy, the Baltic, the Dominican Republic and New Mexico, according to Truhitte.
The average price for all items is $59, but he said rings specifically are around $30.
