SLO County will soon have its first Tesla dealership. Here’s a look
For anyone who’s been eyeing a new Tesla, you’ll soon have a local dealership where you can buy one in person.
The county’s first Tesla dealership is currently under construction off Los Osos Valley Road, at 1381 Calle Joaquin in San Luis Obispo. As of Thursday, the building appeared largely completed, with crews working on landscaping in the parking lot.
The 31,000-square-foot dealership, which was approved by the San Luis Obispo Planning Commission in May 2022, occupies a 2.84-acre lot located in an area of town already dominated by car sellers. The dealership is located on the same road as Mercedes-Benz and Chevrolet, while Ford, Honda, Toyota, Porsche, Nissan, Subaru and Hyundai all have locations nearby on Los Osos Valley Road.
Next to the Tesla project is the new Town Place Suites by Marriott hotel that opened in 2022.
Beyond the main, 30-foot-tall dealership building, the project will include 175 parking spaces, 10 of which are electric vehicle ready and 22 of which are EV capable, according to planning documents.
It will also include 13 bicycle parking spaces and five motorcycle spaces, according to the planning documents.
The new business will be the first Tesla dealership to open in San Luis Obispo County. The next nearest location is in Santa Barbara.
When exactly the dealership might open is unclear. Tesla did not respond to numerous requests for comment from The Tribune to learn more about the current status of the project.
The company does have several job listings for the San Luis Obispo location posted on its website, including general manager, associate service manager and service technician.
