First Hobby Lobby in SLO County opened over the weekend. Here are the details
Hobby Lobby has opened in San Luis Obispo.
The craft store — part of a national chain of stores selling a range of crafting, sewing and home decor goods — opened its first San Luis Obispo County store on Friday, according to a company news release.
The 45,000-square-foot store is located at 313 Madonna Road in the SLO Promenade shopping center, next to REI and Bed, Bath and Beyond.
The new location joins more than 900 Hobby Lobby stores across the country, according to the release. The closest other location is in Santa Maria.
The business has already met with some local controversy.
In July, the Gala Pride and Diversity Center issued a statement saying it was “disappointed” Hobby Lobby was coming to San Luis Obispo, and called for residents to boycott the store given its owners’ histories of supporting anti-LGBTQ organizations.
The new store is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
