Was Black Friday a bust? Shoppers flock to stores in SLO

Shoppers headed to stores in San Luis Obispo on the day after Thanksgiving, but most shoppers said they weren’t there for Black Friday deals.

In San Luis Obispo, Best Buy opened at 5 a.m. Friday, while Target opened at 7 a.m.

Mary Lewis of Oceano went to Target with her 3-year-old son, Ronin Raymond, to shop for a small artificial tree.

“I feel like (Black Friday is) not a big deal this year. Who knows, maybe it won’t ever be,” Lewis said. “I would definitely be more supportive of Small Business Saturday. ... If Black Friday goes by the wayside that will probably be a better thing for everybody.”

Megan Roberts of Bakersfield said she spent Thanksgiving visiting family members in Morro Bay.

“We always Black Friday shop with my family, and Best Buy is the first stop we always make, Roberts said, “(but) nothing struck anybody’s fancy this year. There wasn’t anything good. No great deals.”

“This year,” she said, “I think (Black Friday) is a bust.”

Reached for comment, the Target Corporate communication team responded via text.

“So far today, we’ve seen guests take advantage of our omnichannel shopping experience — including shopping Black Friday deals in-store, online and using our contactless same-day services,” Target wrote.
