Get ready to go to the movies again — SLO’s Sunset Drive-In is about to reopen
If you’ve been missing a Friday night movie outing, you’re in luck: San Luis Obispo’s Sunset Drive-In movie theater is set to reopen this weekend after shuttering during the coronavirus pandemic.
The theater has announced it plans to reopen Friday night with showings of “Trolls: World Tour” and “The Secret Life of Pets 2.”
The drive-in theater closed its gates in mid-March in response to the county’s public safety orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Since then, the county has said that drive-in movie theaters could continue to operate under the state’s shelter-at-home orders, but Sunset officials said they were not ready yet to reopen.
Now the theater has laid out a series of social distancing measures that will allow it to operate safely, according to a Facebook post Wednesday.
Patrons will be asked to stand 6 feet apart when in the concessions line, park only one car between the space-marking poles and limit the restroom line to three people at a time.
“If you assist us in doing this, we can remain open,” read the post. “Also please be patient with us until we can get a routine down to better assist you in the concession stand and with the restrooms. Without your support in the concession stand, we cannot stay open. Thanks for your support and help.”
The box office will open at 8 p.m. nightly, and the first movie will start at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per adult and $4 for kids between the ages of 5 and 11. Children 4 and under get in free. Tickets must be paid for in cash.
