Some SLO County businesses are being allowed to reopen. Here’s which ones
If your pet is a mess right now, you might be happy with San Luis Obispo County’s latest announcement.
On Monday, the same day the county reported no new local coronavirus cases for the third day in April, local health officials announced they have re-evaluated the county’s shelter-at-home order, and will allow several specific sectors of business to reopen.
These include pet grooming services, recreational fishing services and elective surgery and outpatient practices.
“Our community has done a fantastic job,” emergency services director Wade Horton said in a news briefing Monday. “You’ve bent the curve. We are ready to move forward.”
Those businesses allowed to reopen will still be required to follow physical distancing, face covering and protective personal equipment guidelines, according to a county news release.
Public health officer Dr. Penny Borenstein gave specific approval for local hospitals to begin performing elective, or non-urgent, surgeries, as soon as they are ready.
County animal services director Eric Anderson has advised that both mobile and in-house pet grooming services can resume.
Although recreational fishing has always been allowed under the county’s emergency order, both on private charters and personally owned or rented boats, Borenstein noted that fishing suppliers will now be allowed to conduct sales through curbside pickup or delivery.
The county will also move forward on issuing building permits once again, according to the release.
San Luis Obispo County officials are moving forward on their plan to pursue a phased reopening of other local businesses.
On Monday, Horton said details on that plan would be released to the public later this week.
