Good news, crafters — we know when Hobby Lobby is opening in Santa Maria
Central Coast crafters, rejoice — Hobby Lobby is almost here.
Representatives for the craft store chain confirmed to The Tribune on Thursday that a Hobby Lobby is expected to open in Santa Maria in April 2020.
Information on the new shop is scarce, but what is known is its location.
Hobby Lobby, which sells home goods as well as craft supplies, will be taking over the old Toys R Us building at 1411 S. Bradley Road.
Toys R Us closed the spot in spring 2018 after the long-struggling company finally went out of business.
Hobby Lobby has been one of the major retailers swooping in and taking over large vacant Toys R Us buildings. A Hobby Lobby store opened in Clovis in 2019.
According to its website, the Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby has more than 850 stores, and is the “largest privately owned arts-and-crafts retailer in the world, with over 37,500 employees and operating in 46 states.”
Until the Santa Maria store opens, the nearest Hobby Lobby locations for the Central Coast are in Oxnard and Bakersfield.
