Santa Margarita wine feast to benefit Northern California fire relief
As the county’s wine associations tally what they’ve raised for Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino fire relief so far, another fundraising event is on the horizon.
The Wine Feast for Fire Relief will be a decadent, wine-fueled meal and rare wine auction, organizers say, with 100 percent of ticket and auction sales going to CA Wine Strong. They’ll be distributed to the Napa Valley Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund, the Community Foundation of Sonoma County’s Resilience Fund and the Community Foundation of Mendocino County.
Taking place Dec. 8 at Oyster Ridge in Santa Margarita, the evening includes live music, a Morro Bay oyster and bubbles bar and a large selection of donated rare and high-scoring wines at each table. Guests are also encouraged to bring a special bottle to share.
A family-style feast will be created by Dakota Weiss of Estrella in Hollywood, Spencer Johnston and Chris J. Batlle of the pop-up restaurant The Monger and the Chef, and Heirloom Catering’s Mateo Rogers and Brittney Yracheta.
Tickets are $125 and available at nightout.com.
Organizers are hoping the event will add significantly to the thousands of dollars the SLO County wine industry has already raised for fire relief.
“We can really make an impact,” said Solterra Strategies’ Mike Dawson.
Among those efforts:
▪ The SLO Wine Country Association raised $4,000 for CA Wine Strong at its Harvest at the Coast auction in early November, and individual wineries have been donating portions of their bottle sales as well.
▪ A fundraiser at Baileyana winery at the end of October raised $7,000 for victims of both the NorCal fires and the hurricanes that hit Texas, Puerto Rico and other islands.
▪ More than $4,000 has been raised by a GoFundMe campaign started by Parker Sanpei.
The Paso Robles WCA is still tallying totals from a campaign in which member wineries donated $1 for every bottle sold in October.
