In bittersweet news, Joe Momma’s Coffee in Avila Beach will close its shop on Front Street this week, but reopen just down the road in the Inn at Avila Beach at the start of the year, the business announced in a Facebook post Monday.

“It has been a whirlwind 10 years at Joe Momma’s Coffee,” read the post. “From our annual summer soup nights on the beach raising money for charity, to our expanding customers that have grown into family over the years. It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that this is our last week in business.”

The business, owned by Michael and Mary Kidd, opened in 2007. It is unclear why it is shutting its doors now. When reached for comment on the closure, a shop manager said the Kidds did not wish to comment on the closure at this time.

All hope is not lost for locals who have come to love the coffee shop: It will reopen in the Inn at Avila Beach hotel, which the Kidds also own, on Jan. 1, and will continue to serve its signature coffee and baked goods, according to the post.

The shop will only be open for hotel guests, however, making the price of a cup of coffee a steep one.
