Names released of people killed in recent San Diego County crashes

The county Medical Examiner's Office has released the names of 12 people killed in the last month after car crashes in San Diego County.

On June 17, Vojislav Popovich, 87, died a few days after he was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Palomar Airport Road near Amada Drive in Carlsbad around 6:15 p.m.

Popovich declined medical treatment at the scene but died a few days later from complications of traumatic subdural hematoma, the medical examiner said.

A week later on June 25, Michael James Guerrero, 56, died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with another vehicle on H Street near Second Avenue in Chula Vista, investigators said.

He died at a hospital.

Christopher Michael Lockhart, 46, died at a hospital a few weeks after he was involved in a single-vehicle collision on Conrad Drive near Estrella Drive in Spring Valley on June 10. He died from complications of blunt-force injuries, county officials said.

Andrew James Netherton, 52, died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed on state Route 79 near Orchard Lane in Julian on July 3, according to investigators.

That same day, Pete Frank, 58, was involved in a two-vehicle collision on East Mission Bay Drive in La Jolla when the vehicle he was driving crashed into another vehicle around 1:35 p.m. He was taken to a hospital, where he died about an hour later.

Isrrael Trujillo Figueroa, 41, suffered fatal injuries when the e-bike he was riding was struck by a car on East Palomar Street at Raven Avenue in Chula Vista around 4:50 p.m. on June 23. He was taken to a hospital, where he died July 4.

Rashad Pierce, 42, was struck by a vehicle while walking on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard near Convoy Street in the early morning of July 5. He died at the scene.

Later that day, Thomas Alan McDonald, 70, suffered fatal blunt-force head and neck trauma in a motorcycle crash on state Route 67 near Vigilante Road around 3:46 p.m.

On July 8 around 11:10 a.m., Mauricio Hernandez Montes, 18, died in a single-vehicle crash on Proctor Valley Road near Echo Valley Road in Jamul. He died at the scene after suffering trauma to his head and torso.

Michael Lewis Schaffer, 59, was driving a vehicle when it crashed into another vehicle on Bonita Road at Glen Abbey Boulevard in Chula Vista on May 27. He died at a hospital July 9.

Seraphina Rose Fadick, 17, died while she was crossing the street and was struck by a vehicle on El Camino Del Norte near Edelweiss Lane in the Olivenhain neighborhood of Encinitas on July 10 around 7:15 p.m. She died at the scene.

Sergio Angel Wright, a 30-year-old correctional officer who worked at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility, was killed in a single-car crash on Ribbonwood Road near state Route 94 on July 11. He died at a hospital.

"Officer Wright was a valued member of our team, known for his commitment to duty and the respect he showed to his colleagues. His loss is felt deeply across the institution and the department," state officials said in a statement released Tuesday. "Our thoughts are with all who are mourning during this difficult time."
