Police arrest two people in connection to Alameda shooting

Police have arrested two people in connection with a shooting that took place near an Alameda beach in June.

Officers with the Alameda Police Department and East Bay Regional Park District were monitoring a large gathering along Shoreline Drive on the evening of Thursday, June 11, when multiple gunshots were heard, authorities said.

Officers located two victims, a juvenile and an adult, in the 300 block of Park Street, according to the department. Investigators later determined that an individual retrieved a firearm, fired multiple rounds and immediately fled the scene, authorities said.

The department said officers identified a vehicle involved and a suspect, and alerted law enforcement throughout the Bay Area. The vehicle was located on June 12, but the suspect remained outstanding, the department said.

On Wednesday, members of the Alameda Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Task Force located and arrested the suspect, a 19-year-old man in Antioch, without incident. He was booked on charges of attempted murder, according to the department.

A second individual, an 18-year-old woman, was also arrested as an alleged accessory after the fact, authorities said. The investigation remains ongoing.

“Unlawful gatherings like the one that occurred on June 11 have become a growing national trend, placing participants and innocent bystanders at serious risk,” the Alameda Police Department said in a social media post. “Alameda is a welcoming city, and we want residents and visitors alike to enjoy a safe summer. We will not tolerate reckless or unlawful behavior that endangers our community, and we will hold those who compromise the safety of others accountable for their actions.”
