Former Tiburon mayor charged with DUI for a second time

Marin County prosecutors this week charged the former mayor of Tiburon with driving under the influence last month, according to court records.

Andrew Lang Thompson, who was twice elected mayor, had a blood alcohol level of 0.21% - more than 2.5 times the legal limit for driving - when he was arrested June 18, according to the complaint.

Around 11:30 p.m., Tiburon police found Thompson sitting in the driver's seat of a Tesla that was idling and parked horizontally across perpendicular stalls in a parking lot, a spokesperson told the Chronicle. An officer said Thompson was slouched over and was difficult to rouse, the spokesperson said.

The officer allegedly found Thompson at 1129 Mar West St., a parking lot not far from the Tiburon Town Hall Office.

Thompson, 64, was booked into Marin County Jail but released pending his arraignment, which was scheduled for July 7. The charge is a misdemeanor, records show.

"Whether Mr. Thompson is guilty of this DUI charge remains to be seen," said Paul Burglin, Thompson's attorney. "We have not yet received the police report and he was reportedly not driving when contacted by the police. Right now his focus is on introspection and recovery."

Thompson, an apparent Tiburon native, served on the city's town council for 12 years until 2006, according to his LinkedIn. A commercial real estate executive, he has served as vice president of Colton Commercial & Partners, a luxury real estate firm, since 2022, according to his LinkedIn.

Burglin said Thompson does not presently intend to seek a seat on the Tiburon Town Council in this November's election.

Thompson was convicted in 2008 of DUI, court records show. He was placed under a three-year probation and ordered to attend a first-offender DUI program, records show.
