7-year-old girl seriously injured in Northern California dog attack
A 7-year-old Northern California girl who suffered serious injuries when she was attacked by multiple dogs near Corning (Tehama County) was expected to return home Thursday, according to her family.
The girl, identified by family members on GoFundMe as Patricia, was attacked around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Tehama County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the child, who lives near Corning, suffered significant injuries to her scalp and legs. She was hospitalized and later airlifted to a trauma center for advanced medical care.
Six dogs believed to have been involved were seized as evidence and taken to the Tehama County Animal Shelter.
The sheriff's office said the investigation remains ongoing and that additional information would be released when available. No arrests or citations have been announced. Authorities also have not said what led up to the attack.
A GoFundMe organized by Monica Edmiston, who identified herself as Patricia's grandmother, said the child was taken to UC Davis and underwent surgery after the attack.
The fundraiser said Patricia's family has been sleeping in a car near the hospital and seeking help with gas, food and other basic needs.
The Corning Union Elementary School District also posted a message of support on Facebook, identifying the injured girl as one of its students.
Edmiston said Patricia was improving but still frightened and facing a long recovery.
"The dogs ripped her scalp off and left her with numerous wounds all over her body," the family wrote. "Patricia is an incredibly strong little girl, and her resilience is inspiring everyone around her."
