Touro announces six recipients of Momhi Scholarship
Touro University California has announced the recipients of the 2026 Momhi Scholarship, a program supported through a partnership with the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation that helps local students pursue careers in healthcare and community service.
The recipients are Destany Michael, Kaylena Principe, Monica Tran, Catherine Keating, Jasmine Bonner and Yunuen Gonzalez. They were selected for their academic achievement, connection to Vallejo and demonstrated commitment to serving their communities. Collectively, the students have contributed to health outreach, public education and service initiatives focused on improving access to care and supporting underserved populations.
The scholarships support students enrolled in Touro University California's healthcare programs, including osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, nursing, public health, diagnostic medical sonography and radiologic technology.
"Education and healthcare both play an important role in the strength and wellbeing of our communities," said Anthony Roberts, Chairman of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. "Through the Momhi Scholarship, we are proud to support students who are committed to serving others and making a difference close to home. These students represent the future of care, leadership and community service in our region, and we are honored to be part of their journey."
The Momhi Scholarship is named for the Patwin word meaning "to share." The scholarship program is supported through a $150,000 investment from the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, part of the Tribe's broader commitment to education, health and community partnerships throughout Patwin traditional territory.
Touro University California plans to welcome representatives from the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation to campus later this summer for a reception honoring the scholarship recipients and celebrating the continued partnership.
