Vacaville school district union votes for two-year contract

Classified employees in the Vacaville Unified School District overwhelmingly voted in favor of a new two-year contract last week, SEIU 1021 officials confirmed Monday.

"After months of negotiations and actions by our members, including an overwhelming yes to a strike vote, we have finally ratified a two-year contract," a statement from the union reads. "This win is not only for classified staff members, but also for our students, families, and the community we serve every day. By securing fair wages and greater stability for our workforce, we can continue to attract and retain incredibly dedicated employees who keep our schools safe, supported, and running smoothly."

Classified employees include transportation (bus drivers), maintenance and operations, food and nutrition, instruction support, and clerical/administrative staff.

The new 2026-28 agreement includes a 4.87% wage increase effective July 1, followed by a 3% increase effective July 1, 2027. In addition the will receive an additional 1.07% wage increase beginning May 1, through the contract's equity clause, along with a one-time bonus of $1,125 prorated by full-time equivalency.

"This contract demonstrates what is possible when workers stand together and advocate for resources our schools need," the SEIU statement reads. "When we invest in the people who serve students, the entire community benefits."

The new contract is expected to go before the VUSD Governing Board for a final ratification vote later this month.
