Nearly $150K raised in Butte supervisors race

CHICO - The campaign finance reports are in for the District 2 Supervisor race and once again, Peter Durfee's campaign has brought in and spent significantly more than his opponent, this time Marianne Paiva.

Durfee has raised $122,908.78 against Paiva's $23,834 with Durfee getting backing from a much larger number of Political Action Committees both local and beyond, though both candidates have a healthy amount from individual donors as well.

It should also be noted that Durfee's fundraising goes back into 2025 while Paiva began in January 2026 after announcing her candidacy.

During his first race in 2022, Durfee raised nearly $150,000 against his then-opponent, Supervisor Debra Lucero, who totaled a little over $120,000.

District 2 covers a large portion of north and west Chico and expands into northwest Butte County farmlands. It was the subject to some scrutiny when the Butte County Board of Supervisors conducted its redistricting in 2021. Some made the claim that Republicans gerrymandered the district in hopes of a 4-1 majority on the board in what was already a complex mapping process following the significant population shift caused by the Camp Fire in 2018.

Peter Durfee

Since the start of 2025, Durfee has received a total of $122,908.78 in contributions.

Among his largest backers are law enforcement PACs as well as the Butte County Republican Party, which gave him $5,000 in the most recent filings.

While Durfee received financial backing from local law enforcement groups, such as the Chico Police Officers Association PAC ($1,500), the Butte County Deputy Sheriff Association ($1,500) and the Butte County Correctional Officers Association ($1,150), some out-of-town PACs also gave to Durfee's campaign.

The Peace Officers Research Association of California threw in $4,500 total to Durfee's campaign along with the Santa Clara County Correctional Peace Officer's Association PAC's $5,900 and the Contra Costa Deputy Sheriff's Association PAC's $5,000.

Chico city councilors Tom van Overbeek and Dale Bennett each donated $1,200 to Durfee.

Skyway Park LLC's James O'Bannon also donated a sizeable $5,900.

As far as expenditures go, Durfee's campaign has spent a total of $52,088.68 since Jan. 1, 2025.
