Car crashes in San Luis Obispo Creek, closes westbound lane to Avila Beach

A car crashed in San Luis Obispo Creek off Avila Beach Drive, closing down westbound lanes Saturday afternoon.

According to its traffic incident page, the California Highway Patrol received a report of a vehicle 20 feet off the roadway at the green pedestrian bridge around 3:05 p.m.

The vehicle flipped over and landed on its roof, with someone trapped inside while another person was outside the vehicle. A few minutes later, both people were outside the vehicle, according to the CHP page.

CHP officers closed the westbound lanes around 3:10 p.m.

A tow truck was requested to pull the vehicle out of the creek.

As of 3:40 p.m., all traffic was being redirected to northbound Ontario Road while the vehicle was being recovered., according to the page.
