Celebrity's Edge-class ship explores a new Central American port

For cruisers stepping off the tender in Belize City, the day often feels like stepping into another world. The warm breeze carries hints of the sea and nearby jungle, while the Fort Street Tourism Village buzzes with vendors, tour operators, and the promise of adventure just beyond the dock.

Whether the plan is snorkeling the world's second-largest barrier reef, tubing through ancient underground rivers, or simply soaking up the laid-back Caribbean vibe, a call in Belize provides many options for adventure.

English is the official language of Belize, so you'll have no trouble communicating with locals, shopkeepers, and tour guides.

Most people also speak Belizean Creole in everyday conversation, giving the port a distinctive sound, while Spanish is commonly spoken as well, especially in the northern and western areas. This mix makes it easy for English-speaking cruisers to get around while still getting a real taste of the country's multicultural character.

Celebrity Beyond elevates that experience. Its striking design, spacious public areas, and thoughtful details - from the moving Magic Carpet venue to the serene Rooftop Garden - turn a standard port day into something more refined.

Passengers on the June 2026 sailing had the best of both worlds: relaxed sea days, a visit to Royal Caribbean's private island: Perfect Day at CocoCay and visits to Mexico's popular ports: Costa Maya and Cozumel, followed by the richer cultural and natural offerings of Belize City, Belize.

Magic Carpet fills a new role

I personally cruised on this sailing and watched as the Magic Carpet extended out from the side of the ship to serve as our tender platform. It was a smooth, almost theatrical way to reach shore on a port that requires tendering.

The moment felt special, partly because Beyond has only visited Belize once before - and that was an unexpected stop back in October 2025 when the ship was diverted due to Hurricane Melissa.

What made this sailing stand out was how well Beyond's refined, modern atmosphere paired with Belize's more adventurous, nature-focused energy. After relaxed sea days and time at Perfect Day at CocoCay, the shift to a tender port with real cultural and outdoor experiences felt refreshing.

For passengers who enjoy a mix of luxury at sea and meaningful time ashore, this kind of itinerary offers a nice balance that's still relatively uncommon on Beyond.

Celebrity Cruises' relationship with Belize

While this was new territory for Beyond, other ships in the Celebrity fleet have been calling on Belize City for years. Millennium-class and Solstice-class vessels have made it a fairly regular stop on Western Caribbean itineraries, especially those sailing from Florida. Celebrity ships like Summit, Eclipse, Equinox, Reflection, and Silhouette have all brought passengers here multiple times.

Even the newer Edge-class ship Celebrity Apex has included Belize on some of its Caribbean sailings. These visits have helped establish Belize as a solid option for cruisers looking for more than just beach days.

The port gives access to world-class snorkeling along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, cave tubing through the Nohoch Che'en Caves and visits to the ancient Mayan ruins at Altun Ha.

For Celebrity, including Belize strengthens the Western Caribbean rotation and supports the growing demand for nature-oriented and culturally rich ports. It also shows how the line balances proven favorites with destinations that feel a bit more off the beaten path for many North American travelers.

Celebrity Beyond's first scheduled visit to Belize

The June 2026 sailing marked Beyond's first official, scheduled call to Belize City. Up until that point, the ship's only encounter with the port had been the unscheduled October 2025 stop caused by the hurricane. On this sailing, passengers had the full experience - tendering via the Magic Carpet and then heading ashore for excursions or independent exploring.

It's still relatively rare for Beyond. The ship doesn't have Belize on many of its itineraries yet, which made this sailing feel like a bit of a milestone for fans of the Edge-class vessel. The tender process worked smoothly, and having the Magic Carpet as the transfer point added a distinctive touch that you don't get on most other ships or itineraries.

Belize: a growing but still selective port for Celebrity Beyond

Belize's combination of world-class diving, Mayan history, and easygoing atmosphere pairs especially well with Beyond's elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. Guests who value a mix of sea days, beach time, and meaningful port adventures will find this style of itinerary particularly appealing.

If you're considering a Celebrity Beyond cruise, keep an eye on dates that include Belize City. The destination rewards those who book excursions in advance, especially popular ones like snorkeling or cave tubing.

Looking ahead, Beyond is already scheduled to return to Belize on several future sailings, including November 2027, January 2028, and March 2028. This suggests the cruise line may be testing the waters for adding the port more regularly to the ship's Caribbean rotation. For now, though, it remains one of the less common stops for Beyond compared to its sister ships and some other cruise lines.
