Disney cruise gets canceled after families board ship
Disney Cruise Line dreamed up an ambitious entry into the Asian cruise market as it developed the Disney Adventure, its biggest and most theme-park-like cruise ship yet. But despite its impressive design and the anticipation surrounding its recent Singapore debut, the ship's inaugural season has faced operational setbacks that have negatively impacted the passenger experience.
Challenges faced both before and after the new ship set sail suggest that maybe Disney Cruise Line scaled up too quickly as it expanded into Asia. Although the cruise line delayed the launch of the Disney Adventure by months to ensure that the 6,700-passenger ship met the cruise line's high standards, Disney has continued to work out the kinks after the ship began welcoming passengers in March.
On social media, passengers on the ship's first voyages reported issues like missing mattresses and changes to the entertainment lineup, according to Disney fan site Inside the Magic.
To make matters worse, passengers on the latest Disney Adventure voyage didn't get to set sail at all. After spending some time on the ship while it was docked in port, they were asked to prepare to disembark as their sailing wouldn't be able to go on as planned.

Disney Adventure sailing canceled after boarding due to mechanical issue
Disney Cruise Line canceled the May 7 sailing on the Disney Adventure after passengers had already boarded the ship, as reported by Disney Cruise Line Blog, a Disney cruise news blog not affiliated with the cruise line.
"We are truly sorry to let you know that we are unable to proceed with your Disney Adventure experience from May 7-11, 2026 as planned. We fully understand how upsetting and disappointing this news is, and we realize this is not the experience you were looking forward to," Disney Cruise Line wrote in a letter delivered to passengers.
Passengers were asked to immediately begin preparing their luggage for disembarkation.

The letter did not specify the reasoning for the cancellation, but a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson clarified in a statement to Disney Cruise Line Blog that a technical issue prevented the ship from sailing.
"The Disney Adventure remains in port in Singapore as our teams continue to address a mechanical issue. As the issue has not been resolved in the timeframe required to start this voyage, this current sailing has been cancelled. We apologize to our guests and are working with them directly to provide support for their travel needs," the spokesperson said.
Disney providing refunds, hotel stay for impacted passengers
Disney Cruise Line is providing impacted passengers with full refunds and 50% off a future Disney cruise as compensation for the cancellation. The cruise line also arranged a complimentary hotel stay for passengers and is covering flight change fees, as well as offering up to $500 per stateroom for other incidentals.
The Disney Adventure remains docked in Singapore while it undergoes repairs. The next sailing scheduled to depart on May 11 is expected to take place as planned.

The Disney Adventure is defined by seven immersive themed areas, and sails three- and four-night cruises with only days at sea from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore.
Disney Cruise Line's eighth ship, the Disney Adventure is part of a multi-year expansion that includes five more ships joining the fleet by 2031.
