Sally the Rottweiler hoping for forever home
If you are thinking of adopting a dog, this is the time to stop by the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter. The dog population has doubled in the past week, and space is limited. Many of these dogs were surrendered by owners. If you are looking to find a new home for your dog, please check with friends and family first before taking them to the shelter.
This week, shelter volunteer Ellen Perryess highlights long-time shelter resident Sally:
This is like a note in a bottle — the sea is large, and the likelihood of reaching the right person is a matter of hope.
Sally needs her one right person.
Sally is a 3-year-old Rottweiler at the county Animal Services shelter. True to the breed, Sally is calm, steady and not one to quickly give her heart. Those unschooled in the breed might think Sally is standoffish when, actually, she’s waiting for the person or family who will recognize her heart and appreciate her for the intelligent, loyal dog she is.
Sally’s hoped-for person will notice the hitch in her gait (due to an old injury) and will appreciate that she’s a strong and determined gal who isn’t going to let a limp prevent her from going for a walk — which is fortunate because another Rottweiler trait, overeating, has resulted in Sally needing to lose weight. Pleasantly for all parties, Sally sets an easy pace, and with the help of a caring owner, she’ll lose the extra pounds.
The perfect family will be looking to have just one pet in their life because, for Sally, cats are too interesting to let lie, and other dogs are simply extraneous.
In exchange for being the only quadruped, this quiet couch-potato girl — who’s never barked at the shelter — will make her loved ones feel safe just because she’s there.
Attention, Rottweiler lovers, Sally’s note has reached the shore; time will tell if any heed its call.
