Adoptable Alaska is ready for her forever home.

At 45 pounds, Alaska is a small and sweet 2-year-old German shepherd mix. She is easily recognizable by her fluffy coat and adorable perky ears.

Recently, Alaska spent time in foster care where her foster mom learned all about her.

Alaska is spunky, playful, great on a leash, crate trained and very loyal to her people. She knows the commands “sit”, “shake” and “lay down,” and would patiently wait in her crate while her foster mom was at work or out and about.

She is potty trained, good with most other dogs and very food motivated. She also has a soft spot for tug of war, and loves car rides.

German shepherds as a breed are known to be intelligent, loyal, obedient, curious and watchful dogs. While Alaska is very loving towards women, she tends to be scared of men.

We are unsure of the past events that led to Alaska’s fear of men, but we know that she will make a great dog for someone who understands her breed and is willing to help her work through her past traumas.

There are many resources available online regarding training and techniques to help dogs work through their fears, such as DIBS Rescue and The Spruce Pets website.

If you think you can show Alaska all the good this world has to offer, call or stop by the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter to meet this sweet pup. She’s ready for a second chance at finding a loving home.
