Raven the gentle lap cat is looking for love. Help her find a new home
Raven is a gentle soul who appreciates human attention, gets along with like-minded felines and enjoys the company of cat-loving children and adults alike.
Given her wonderful temperament, Raven clearly once belonged to a family. Yet no one came to claim the approximately 8-year-old kitty once she turned up at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter.
Sadly, Raven’s previous owners never had her spayed, which makes one wonder how many unwanted litters of kittens she may have had and how many of these kittens found loving homes.
Being a stray, Raven has numerous mysteries.
Where did the small bend in her tail come from? Why is her belly plump? How did she survive traveling in a car’s engine compartment before being found?
As to why Raven was unaltered, perhaps her family couldn’t afford it.

Raven is now spayed. That makes her an ideal poster pet for February, which is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.
There are many reasons to have a pet altered.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, statistically, altered dogs and cats live longer than those that are not.
Additionally, having pets altered can contribute to curbing undesirable behaviors and will definitely prevent unwanted litters. That, in turn, reduces animal shelter overcrowding.

How to adopt a pet
For more information about Raven (ID No. 290007), call the volunteer line at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter at 805-781-4400 or visitslocounty.ca.gov/aserv. The shelter is located at 865 Oklahoma Ave. off Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo.
The full-price adoption fee is $81 for cats and $115 for dogs, plus a $28 county license fee for dogs, if the adopters are San Luis Obispo County residents.
The adoption fee includes a new collar, a spay or neuter operation, basic vaccinations, a microchip and eligibility for a free veterinary check within San Luis Obispo County. Cats also are tested for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus, and adopters receive a carrier.
