Sprinkles the three-legged kitty loves being a lap cat. Help her find a new home
When things don’t go as we wish, we might get angry or feel hopeless.
Living by example, our pets can often help us rise above our disappointments, forgive where others would not and discover we can shoulder the misfortunes that befall us.
Since arriving at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter in November, Sprinkles has shown an abundance of grace in the face of adversity, and has a seemingly endless appreciation of human attention — as evidenced by her pleasure at being a lap cat who leans appreciatively into caresses.
Being an already spayed, affectionate kitty with beautiful markings, it was a shock when no owner came to claim Sprinkles, who is approximately 10 years old.
Sadly, there’s evidence that her past wasn’t without challenges.
When Sprinkles arrived at the shelter, her right rear leg was broken, most likely due to being hit by a car.
Her damaged leg couldn’t be saved, though with predictable grace, she’s adjusted beautifully to being a three-legged cat, leaping easily from the floor to someone’s lap.
Additionally, due to being an outside cat, Sprinkles tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV).
FIV isn’t transmissible to humans, and kitties with FIV can live as long as those without the illness. However, FIV-positive cats should be indoor kitties living either by themselves or with other FIV-positive cats.
Sprinkles lives in the endless possibilities of the present moment and is waiting for an adopter who’s looking for a kitty to help them see the beauty of every day.
For more information about Sprinkles (ID No.271966), call the volunteer line at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter at 805-781-4400 or visit www.slocounty.ca.gov/aserv. The shelter is located at 885 Oklahoma Ave., off Highway 1, in San Luis Obispo.
The full-price adoption fee is $81 for cats and $115 for dogs, plus a $28 county license fee for dogs, if the adopters are San Luis Obispo County residents.
The adoption fee includes a new collar, a spay or neuter operation, basic vaccinations, a microchip and eligibility for a free veterinary check within San Luis Obispo County. Cats also are tested for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus, and adopters receive a carrier.
