This active young dog runs ‘just for the joy of it.’ Help Heidi find a loving family

Dogs have an unwavering belief in people.

We are the keepers of the leash, the captains of the car keys and the providers of tasty treats. Like little children, they believe there’s nothing we can’t do.

Puppies reach adulthood in less than two years. It’s a mad dash to provide them — in this short amount of time — all the training and positive experiences they need to become confident, people-loving dogs.

Additionally, puppy play dates are needed so pups will grow to love dogs as much as you do.

At 1 year old, Heidi’s a lovely mix of puppy and adult dog.

She’s a nice medium-sized dog with a coat similar to a German shepherd, though she best fits into the category of “endearing mutt.”

In her short life, Heidi has learned that people are fabulous and has shown herself to be good with like-minded dogs.

Being a fan of humans, she joins the dog chorus in the San Luis Obispo Animal Services kennel, hoping someone will notice her.

Heidi loves to run just for the joy of it, though she’ll take it up a notch for a ground squirrel, so she’s ideal for an active, cat-free home with a fenced yard.

Heidi has a solid foundation to become a fabulous dog and needs a loving family to help her become her best self.

Heidi believes in people. Now she needs a family to believe in her.

For more information about Heidi (ID No. 279748), call the volunteer line at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter at 805-781-4400 or visit www.slocounty.ca.gov/aserv. The shelter is located at 885 Oklahoma Ave., off Highway 1, in San Luis Obispo.

The full-price adoption fee is $81 for cats and $115 for dogs, plus a $28 county license fee for dogs, if the adopters are San Luis Obispo County residents.

The adoption fee includes a new collar, a spay or neuter operation, basic vaccinations, a microchip and eligibility for a free veterinary check within San Luis Obispo County. Cats also are tested for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus, and adopters receive a carrier.

Adoption fees for some dogs, cats are half off

Summer often marks an increase in the number of dogs and cats coming to the SLO County Animal Services shelter. 2022 is no exception.

Unfortunately, adoption rates have declined, leaving shelter staff and volunteers concerned.

To encourage people to bring home new four-legged family members, Animal Services is cutting adoption fees of dogs and cats who have been available for adoption for 14 days or longer in half. That’s right — those fees are half-off until June 15.
