Brown-eyed Bennet the shepherd mix is looking for a loving home

When visiting the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services shelter, you notice Bennet’s “wisdom whiskers.”

At 9 years old, the salt-and-pepper fur on his face lets you know he’s no longer a pup. At the shelter, he’s shown himself to be housebroken. He doesn’t need to chew everything in sight and walks easily on a leash.

He can even sit when asked.

Spend time with this brown-eyed shepherd mix, and you’ll notice his yearning to be a faithful companion. He’s affectionate and thrives when engaging with people.

In a yard, he’ll investigate the good smells, then return to check in with you — perhaps for a pet or scratch.

He’s surprisingly spry and will thrive in a household with people who are looking for a walking companion.

Shelter volunteers say he’d even be a great running partner. New Year’s Eve resolutions, anyone?

Sadly, Bennet’s one rumpled ear likely indicates his past owner didn’t or couldn’t provide for him.

His digestion-related medical condition may be related to his past care. Fortunately, this issue is mostly an annoyance to him at times, and is not life threatening.

What’s important to know is, for Bennet, time spent running around and playing isn’t just recreational but part of a good wellness plan — along with an appropriate diet.

As a middle-aged dog, Bennet knows the important things in life are to be kind and to have fun.

Hopefully, someone will be able to look beyond his white whiskers and ring in the new year with this distinguished gentleman.
