Pickle the SLO shelter puppy picks Super Bowl winner — and scores a win for himself

There is a budding Kansas City Chiefs fan in our midst, San Luis Obispo County.

Pickle the puppy captured hearts with his prediction of this year’s Super Bowl winner, posted on Woods Humane Society’s Facebook page early Friday.

His verdict? Chiefs all the way.

When presented with two food bowls filled with treats, Pickle, who was a resident of Woods Humane Society’s San Luis Obispo shelter, immediately chose the one decorated in Chiefs colors over the San Francisco 49ers-bedecked bowl.

“We just thought it would be a fun way to cast a prediction ahead of the big game and as you can see .... He was very serious about the Chiefs,” Woods Humane Society representative Emily L’Heureux told The Tribune in a Facebook message Friday evening.

Wondering what a puppy knows about the Super Bowl?

Dozens of videos online feature animals’ predictions for the big game. A group of Bay Area canine “clairvoyants” called for a 49ers win, while Fiona the hippo, who lives at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, barfed on a Kansas City Chiefs food barrel and predicted their ultimate victory.

Pickle’s prediction, however, caught the eye of someone important. L’Heureux said Pickles was adopted Friday, and his new family said they had seen the video of him.

But is he a puppy psychic? We’ll have to wait until Sunday to see.

Though Pickle is no longer in play, you can still score a touchdown at Woods Humane Society and adopt one of its other animals.

According to L’Heureux, Woods Humane Society is holding an adoption special in February for Valentine’s Day.

The price of adult dog and cat adoptions is reduced to $30 through Feb. 16, and includes a free month of pet insurance. All of the shelter’s animals are micro-chipped, spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
