California Mid-State Fair – July 25-August 5

All the fair mainstays – rides, games, animals, rodeos, concerts, carnival food and more – attract tens of thousands to the fairground, now called the Paso Event Center, for 12 days each summer. Admission charged. 805-239-0655 or

Olive Festival – August 25

This newer festival gives a nod to another popular Paso crop – olives, which are celebrated and sampled in full form, olive oil, olive oil ice cream, olive tapenade and more. Held in City Park, the festival features olive growers and olive oil producers as well as wine, music, arts and crafts and a cooking contest. Free. 805-238-4103 or

Pioneer Day – October 6

For 76 years, Pioneer Day has celebrated the city’s heritage. Held in City Park, the celebration includes a parade, a bean feed, concerts, contests and displays as well as a dance and luncheons for long-time residents. Free. 805-238-4545

Harvest Wine Tour – October 19 -21

More than 85 wineries host special events to celebrate the fall crush, including wine tasting, dinners, vineyard tours, seminars, cooking classes and concerts. Admission charged for some events. 805-239-8463 or

Vine Street Victorian Showcase – December 8

The beautiful Victorians on Vine Street get a holiday makeover, with elaborate decorations, thousands of lights and special touches to bring it all to life. There are carolers, storytellers, performances by local music and dance groups and appearances by characters such as Scrooge and of course, Santa. Free. 805-238-4103

Paso Robles Zinfandel Festival -- March 14-16, 2008

Saturday’s marquee event at the Paso Robles Events Center (formerly the Mid-State Fairgrounds) features an evening of wine, food and auctions. The weekend also includes winemaker dinners, food pairings, seminars, open houses and special tastings. Admission charged. 805-239-8463 or

Paso Wine Festival – May 16-18, 2008

The main event at Paso Robles City Park features tasting of more than 300 Paso Robles wines with food and entertainment. Wineries also host their own events. Admission charged. 805-239-8463 or

West Coast Kustoms Car Show – May (dates to be announced)

Paso Robles City Park, channeling the '50s and '60s, plays host to hundreds of hot rods and custom cars. The show, which started in Los Angeles 24 years ago, is one of the biggest of the year. The three-day event includes a cruise night, vehicle awards, swap meet, outdoor entertainment. Free. 951-488-0413 or
