After four years pouring a variety of Central Coast wines to visitors, Region has shut its doors in downtown San Luis Obispo.

The wine bar announced in an Instagram post Tuesday that it had “made the difficult decision to close” its 979 Morro St. spot.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the guests, winery partners, team members and community who welcomed us and helped make Region SLO such a special place,” the post said. “Thank you for believing in our mission and allowing us to celebrate the incredible wineries of the Central Coast.”

Region opened in its space nestled under Hotel SLO in April 2022.

At the time, co-owner and founder Johan Eide said they were “trying to fill that void and gap in the wine industry between very small producers and very large producers.”

“Our whole goal is to make tasting local wine approachable,” Eide told The Tribune in April 2022.

Now the business, which also operates a similar wine bar in Sonoma, is planning to get back to its roots.

“As we turn the page, our focus is on the future of Region in Sonoma where our journey began in 2019,” the post said. “We’re more committed than ever to connecting guests with independent wineries, sharing the stories behind every bottle and continuing to build a place where local wine and community come together.”

The business also thanked its fans in San Luis Obispo County, saying the support “means the world to us.”

The post concluded: “We look forward to seeing you soon and share what’s next!”
