Which Blue Gatorade Flavor Is the Very Best? I Tried Them All, and the Winner Won by a Landslide

Growing up playing sports, I always looked forward to the small rewards that came after a long, hot practice or game. Those moments felt simple, but they meant a lot. Nothing ever felt quite like walking over to the cooler, digging through the ice and grabbing an ice-cold Gatorade. It was always the same routine for me, and without even thinking about it, I would reach for the blue one every single time. It didn't matter what other flavors were sitting right next to it. If there was a blue option, that was my choice.

Part of it was straightforward preference. Blue has always been my favorite color, so naturally it stood out to me more than the others. Over time though, it became more than just the color itself. I started to actually prefer the taste of the blue varieties over everything else in the lineup. It became a habit, almost like something I associated with finishing a hard workout or a tough game. But what is the best blue Gatorade?

After years of drinking them in different settings, I started paying closer attention to the differences between flavors. I had already built a mental ranking from past experiences, so I thought I had a pretty good idea of how they would compare. Still, I wanted to test that theory in real time by tasting them again side by side.

Doing that helped me see things more clearly. Some flavors held up exactly how I remembered them, while others surprised me a bit in both good and bad ways. Comparing them directly made it easier to understand my preferences instead of just going off of memory. In the end, it wasn't just about nostalgia or habit anymore, but about confirming what actually tastes best to me today.

Read on to see the taste-test results of every blue Gatorade flavor and if these fun options lived up to the hype (and my memory).

How I Tested the Blue Gatorades

I wanted to make sure this test was fair and honest, so I decided to conduct a blind tasting to keep everything unbiased. I used unmarked cups so I would not know which blue Gatorade flavor I was drinking at any point. Each sample was tasted one by one and evaluated carefully. I judged them based on smell, taste and color to keep the comparison consistent across the lineup.

After tasting each one, I took notes on my first impressions and the aftertaste. This helped me clearly separate the differences between each option without brand influence or expectations. Once all the samples were tested, I ranked them from worst to best across the entire blue Gatorade lineup.

The goal was to stay transparent and honest with my opinion. I wanted the flavors to speak for themselves instead of me thinking about the product labels or selling points of each drink.

Every Blue Gatorade Flavor, Ranked Worst to Best

After taste-testing all of the blue Gatorade flavors available, here's my ranking from worst to best.

6. Gatorade Zero Zero Sugar Glacier Freeze

Coming in last place for me is the Gatorade Zero Zero Sugar Glacier Freeze. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. The problem is that it just feels like it's missing something. The flavor is lighter than I expected, and it doesn't have that refreshing punch I look for after a workout. If you're limiting your sugar intake, it'll get the job done, but compared to the others on this list, it didn't stand out to me.

5. Gatorlyte Glacier Freeze

Gatorlyte definitely serves a purpose, especially when you need serious hydration. That said, I found myself noticing the electrolytes more than the flavor. It has a slightly salty taste that reminds you this drink was designed for recovery first and flavor second. It's useful, but it's not one I'd reach for if I really wanted a good-tasting sports drink.

4. Gatorade Advanced Rehydration Glacier Freeze

This blue Gatorade flavor is a step up from the last two. It still has that familiar Glacier Freeze flavor many people know and love, but the Advanced Rehydration formula gives it a little more substance. It's refreshing and easy to drink, but when compared to the top three, the flavor isn't quite as bold.

3. Gatorade Zero Zero Sugar Rehydration Cool Blue

Cool Blue has always been one of the most recognizable Gatorade flavors. What surprised me here was how much I enjoyed the zero-sugar version. The berry flavor comes through nicely without being overly sweet. It's clean, refreshing and one of the better sugar-free sports drinks I've had.

2. Gatorade Advanced Rehydration Cool Blue

If someone handed me this after mowing the lawn, spending hours working on my Impala or finishing a tough workout, I'd be completely satisfied. It delivers everything I expect from a blue Gatorade. The berry flavor is strong, refreshing and easy to drink. There's a reason Cool Blue has remained a fan favorite for years.

1. Gatorade Advanced Rehydration Fierce Blue Cherry

This one takes the top spot for me without much debate. From the first sip, the flavor is bigger, bolder and more memorable than the other blue Gatorade options on this list. The blue cherry flavor gives it an extra layer that separates it from Glacier Freeze and Cool Blue. It's sweet without being overpowering, and it tastes exactly like what I want a sports drink to taste like after a long day.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, I'll probably always have a soft spot for anything blue when it comes to Gatorade flavors. But if I'm grabbing just one bottle from the cooler, Gatorade Advanced Rehydration Fierce Blue Cherry is the one I'm reaching for first every single time.
