New Pismo Beach coffee shop opens in prime downtown spot. Take a look inside
A new coffee and pastry shop opened on one of Pismo Beach’s most popular streets, serving flavored lattes, croissants and pizza flatbreads made to order.
Dulci on Pomeroy Avenue opened its glass doors on May 13, with its co-owners Oscar Macias and Denise Lopez being no strangers to launching a restaurant in Pismo Beach.
The brother-and-sister duo also operate Taqueria El Quero a block away at 711 Dolliver St., but the coffee business was a new venture for them.
“This is a completely different world from tacos to coffee, so we’re learning as we go, but the premise was interesting, and it was just a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Macias told The Tribune. “These businesses are hardly open. Somebody goes in there, then they won’t be open for another 20 to 30 years.”
Occupying the space before Dulci was another coffee shop — Kraken Coffee, which closed in late 2024 due to what the owners said was high rent. Macias and Lopez signed the lease for the spot in January 2025 and started designing the shop with golden hanging chandelier lights, checkered flooring and bistro-style chairs.
“We saw a prime location, we saw the opportunity, and we couldn’t let it go,” Macias said. “It’s spur of the moment at this point, like, ‘What were we thinking?’ But now we’re in the weeds so we’re going to get through it.”
What’s on the menu at new Pismo Beach coffee shop?
Dulci means sweet, Macias said, and is reflected in the shop’s menu.
The drink menu features lattes, matcha, a dulci and cream strawberry beverage and a blue raspberry limeade, priced between $6 to $8.
As for Dulci’s food, savory pizzas range from pepperoni to spicy BBQ chicken, with an array of different croissants, yogurt parfaits and pastries.
Macias said he and Lopez are still “venturing out” to see how the coffee shop can expand its menu, but views from the space turn the shop into a grab-and-go spot.
“You can see the sunset, the pier, the Pismo sign lettering, so it’s really calm and beautiful scenery out there,” he said. “We offer the traditions, but also Pismo tourism as well.”
