Atascadero Tamale Festival moves to new date due to storm. Here’s when it will take place
Atascadero’s popular Tamale Festival has moved to a new date after organizers canceled this weekend’s festivities due to severe winter weather.
Now in its seventh year, the food festival is traditionally held in January.
“This year, with the sheer volume of rain and flooding that we are experiencing in Atascadero, it is impossible to hold the event this weekend,” the city said in a news release Tuesday.
The Tamale Festival will now take place May 6 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sunken Gardens in Atascadero, organizers announced Friday.
The Atascadero Tamale Festival will feature more than 30 tamale vendors from local restaurants showcasing their flavors, according to the event’s website.
The day-long event will feature live music, a tamale eating contest, dancing horses, traditional Mexican dances and a Chihuahua and pet costume contest.
