Training your dogs isn't just about commands like "sit" and "leave it." For many dog breeds, training is a way to stimulate their minds and give them a role to play. Working breeds tend to need more training to keep them active, and fortunately for us, that means we can bear witness to some pretty incredible tricks.

Take Grim, for example. The black Australian shepherd isn't just doing your typical tricks; he's going above and beyond, and you can bet he's really proud of himself. Just as proud is Grim's human, who doesn't seize the opportunity to showcase some of Grim's talents. Showing off six of his favorite tricks, Grim pulls them each off with ease.

Taking us through each of their six favorite tricks, there's no doubt that Grim is a talented little pup. Just as one user put it, "Smarter than some people I know. Cuter too."

Under his belt, Grim can speak, rest his paw on your hand, back up, fist bump with his head, boop and backward orbit on command. While some of these need some refinement, they're still worthy of praise. (And treats!) However, the most adorable part of his tricks is the absolute enjoyment and glee with which Grim participates. With a smile from ear to ear, Grim loves to do tricks with his human.

In the comments, users were amazed by Grim's talents and his human's ability to train him successfully. "You have the cutest little baby, good job for that awesome training you did too!" added one user.

Another viewer shared their own dog's story, "My dog knows 'step up' onto the scale at the vet. We don't even go there that often she is just really smart and will do it at any vets office on any scale."

How Much Training Do Australian Shepherds Need?

As one commenter shared, "Literally love this. Dogs need a job, and they need stimulation. Tricks are great to stave off boredom and restlessness."

Because Australian shepherds are bred for herding and other work, they require tons of physical activity and mental stimulation. This breed typically needs around two hours of daily mental and physical exercise to stay healthy and active. A naturally athletic and intelligent dog, brisk walks and constant training sessions are key to keeping them entertained daily. While they make the perfect dog for humans with an active lifestyle, their need for physical and mental exercise requires more dedication and time than other breeds.

Thankfully, they thrive in work and outdoor activities and are more than happy to join you in hiking sessions anytime you ask.
