Former NFL star stops in SLO for breakfast at a popular downtown restaurant

Former NFL star J.J. Watt dropped by San Luis Obispo for breakfast on Sunday, a week after he was in Las Vegas as part of CBS’ Super Bowl broadcast team.

Watt posted a photo on X of an omelet, potatoes and coffee cake from Louisa’s Place on Higuera Street, with the caption “These are the best kind of establishments and you can’t convince me otherwise.”

He included a cup of coffee in a Louisa’s Place mug, for a subtle shoutout to the longtime downtown SLO diner.

It appears he was in the area for a wedding, which he noted in a post on Saturday.

Watt, 34, played 12 years in the NFL, mostly as a defensive end for the Houston Texans, before finishing his career with the Arizona Cardinals. He was named the AP Defensive Player of the Year three times in his first five seasons.

He retired from pro football in 2023 and now works as a studio analyst for “The NFL Today.”
