SLO pizza joint abruptly shuts doors after almost 20 years: ‘With very heavy hearts’
Village Host Pizza and Grill closed its doors for good this weekend, marking a sudden end to almost 20 years of serving up slices in San Luis Obispo.
“It is with very heavy hearts that we must close our doors after 20 years,” read a sign posted on the door of the restaurant Sunday. “Thank you for all the support and loyalty you have shown us over the years.”
The reason for the abrupt closure was not immediately apparent; email requests for comment from restaurant management were not returned as of Monday morning.
Village Host is a California chain of pizza restaurants that began in Burlingame in the 1960s before expanding to include a handful of locations around the state.
The San Luis Obispo location first opened at 2138 Broad St. in 2004, roughly two years after a since-shuttered location opened in Paso Robles. The restaurant chain still has locations in Aptos, Capitola, Belmont and Burlingame.
The San Luis Obispo location’s phone number was out of service as of Monday, and the website had a pop-up message on the local restaurant page that confirmed the closure.
“Dear friends,” the message read, “we regret to inform you that Village Host San Luis Obispo is now permanently closed. Thank you for 20 years of your patronage!”
